Intuitive Eating Coach
My biggest gift is my ability to provide caring support and motivation as you rebuild the trust in yourself and your body and reacquaint yourself with your inner wisdom.
I bring over 32 years of nutrition therapy and counseling practice experience into this program. I am a Registered and Certified Dietitian Nutritionist, Certified Diabetes Educator and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. I was trained and certified by the Original Intuitive Eating Pros and I’m the author of four books including the most recent, Enjoying Food Peace: Recipes and Intuitive Eating Wisdom to Nourish Your Body and Mind (find it on Amazon).
I struggled with my own weight, too!
I even had my own weight struggle in 2002 after the birth of my 4th child. I was running two private practices plus was the director of a large dietetic internship program at a major medical facility in New York.
I was overwhelmed and exhausted and found myself putting on weight. When I heard myself say, “I don’t have time to exercise” I realized something had to change. I was giving the same excuse I heard many of my clients give.
So, I created a plan for myself just as I would for a client and while it worked, I realized I had fallen into a trap.
There I was, weighing, measuring and thinking about calories. In other words, I had a diet mentality. Plus, as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, I had an advantage over my clients because I had in-depth knowledge about nutrition and meal planning.
There had to be another way. A way that didn’t include deprivation and counting calories.
It was around that time that I learned about intuitive eating and had an “aha” moment.”
THIS was a way for my clients to break free of the “diet mindset” once and for all. The “diet mindset” is the idea that “I can have this, I can’t have that” that frankly, sets you up for failure.
Most my clients come to me after they’ve tried everything else and they think they’re somehow at fault. That their willpower isn’t strong enough. Sound familiar?
But that’s not the case at all. There’s nothing wrong with your willpower!
The only thing “wrong” is all the “rules” you’ve learned over the years about “bad” foods and “good” foods. This belief immediately sets you up for a power struggle in your mind.
It’s reverse psychology.
See, those stringent rules create “deprivation mind.” This is the feeling that you “can’t” have something and you avoid it for days/weeks/months but eventually, you know what happens? You can’t take it another minute and you gorge yourself on that delicious looking plate of brownies. Once the floodgates are opened, you eat as many as you can leaving you with terrible feelings of shame and guilt.
It’s a nasty cycle of deprivation and gluttony that taps into deep-rooted emotions – usually dating back to childhood.
I want to free you from the tyranny of the diet treadmill.
