Prior to working with Bonnie, I had a strong diet mentality and was always “on a diet.” I would lose weight on a diet but as soon as I started eating normally again, I would put it back on. I never learn anything about identifying my hunger and I didn’t have a healthy relationship with food. My biggest struggle was continuing my intuitive eating practice in social situations and I found myself falling back into a diet mentality. After working with Bonnie, I was able to get to a place where I am more comfortable with my food choices and I am able to be much more present in these social situations. I have always had a love-hate relationship with food. I would ‘watch” myself with reason but every time I was stressed, busy or bored I would turn to food. Within a few months of working with Bonnie, I noticed a significant change in my relationship with food. If I choose to have a piece of chocolate, that’s fine. If I choose not to have it that’s also fine. I never feel like I am depriving myself. Recently I was faced with an extremely stressful situation that would have, in the past, resulted in me eating several pints of ice cream. I realized how much I changed when I didn’t even feel the “need” for ice cream. I coped with the situation without turning to food. For years I was frustrated with the foods I ate and with my weight going up and down. I think about the “why” behind my eating. I feel better eating a variety of foods knowing if I want I can have chocolate. At the start of this journey, I was living in diet-mode and it was stressful. I was eating according to set standards that were dictated to me. But once I started on the intuitive eating journey with Bonnie, I became my own person, guiding myself in a positive direction. I am making food decisions now with my own internal controls.
